| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
Michigan | We all saw what they did to USC. 3 straight top 25 wins by 30+. Can't keep them #2 any longer
Arizona | The Wildcats have also been insanely dominant, and in a normal year would be the easy #1, but Michigan exists
Iowa State |
UConn | The Huskies continue to dominate even in conference play (though the Big East seems weak), so I'm jumping them when comparing them to some others I had above them
Purdue | The Boilermakers looked more solid this week than Houston and Duke did, and they've played a comparable schedule. I just feel more confident in Purdue right now
Houston | Really didn't impress this week, and while I still think they're good, I currently feel more confident in Purdue so the Boilermakers jump
Duke | Duke got scares from GT and FSU both, and neither of those teams have impressed to this point, so I'm backing a bit off of the Blue Devils
Gonzaga | Nearly blew a game at USD and needed a huge comeback vs Seattle, just like Duke, I just feel a bit more confident right now in the teams above them
BYU |
Nebraska | Huge win vs Sparty, Nebraska now has two top 25 wins and looks really good
Alabama | Stomped a solid Yale team and then did the same to Kentucky, Alabama looks really good right now
Vanderbilt |
Michigan State | After playing strangely close vs not amazing teams, Sparty finally takes a loss to a really good Nebraska team. They still look good, but I'm really starting to worry
Illinois |
Arkansas | Picked up a huge win vs Tennessee. The Razorbacks seem to have one of the(if not THE) best freshman duos in the country with Acuff and Thomas
North Carolina | Took an L at SMU. The Tar Heels still have an impressive resume and look good, but they did get a little humbled by the Mustangs.
Texas Tech |
Louisville | The Cardinals pick up their 3rd L at Stanford. In hindsight, their wins aren't that amazing, and they've lost their two hardest games (in retrospect). They're still good, but a bit worrying
Iowa | Beat UCLA pretty easily. This ranking is more about them being consistent and a lot of teams I had near the bottom of these rankings losing
Georgia | Solid win vs Auburn. I'm unsure how good this team truly is, but they just picked up almost definitely their best win of the year to this point
Tennessee | Got handed their 4th loss at Arkansas. I think Tennessee is good, they just have some problems they NEED to fix if they want to go far or win the SEC
SMU | SMU only has losses at Vandy and to LSU, and they just took care of UNC pretty easily. The Mustangs may be fools gold, but right now they look kind of good
Villanova | Nova's only losses are BYU and Michigan, and while their wins haven't been super great, they've all around looked solid
Saint Louis | The Billikens only have one loss by 1 to Stanford on a neutral court, and they've really handled most of the rest of their schedule with relative ease, including some decent mid major wins
Virginia | Took a loss in a wild game at VT, but almost instantly made up for it by slaughtering NC State on the road. The Hoos barely hold onto their ranked status, for now
New Year, new ranking. I decided to shuffle around the top of my ranking due to some of the results from this last week, as well as just reconsidering what I think about some teams compared to others. I continue to try and reward winning games over quality losses, but I'm also trying to not just rank teams high for playing nobodies (EX. Miami (Ohio) is still just outside my top 25 because they just now are starting to play some more non-quad 4 games). As conference play forces teams to play more quality opponents, we'll really learn which teams are real and which aren't. Just for anyone curious, other teams I seriously considered this week (not really in order): UCF, Saint Mary's, Miami (Ohio), Utah State, and Seton Hall
