| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
Arizona | (-) Officially the definitive #1 team in the nation.
Iowa State | (+1) That said, I'm sure Iowa St is ready to prove they're the true #1 team, but they don't face Arizona until March unfortunately.
Nebraska | (+2) I'm kind of over Nebraska & Vanderbilt getting disrespected in the rankings when they've more than proven themselves as top tier teams. Nebraska moreso in my opinion.
UConn | (-) Now it's official in my eyes that they have the best loss in all of college basketball thus far. Some worrisome close matchups this week though...
Vanderbilt | (+3) I said if they beat Alabama, I'd put them in my top 5 and, well, they beat Alabama. Alabama losing again after isn't ideal, but this Vandy team is legit and deserves respect.
Purdue | (-) With Michigan losing, I think Purdue moves up to having the second best loss in college basketball and is the second best one-loss team in college basketball.
Michigan | (-5) I feel like this fall feels cruel but to have their loss be to unranked, 5-loss Wisconsin isn't ideal. And after reassessing them, yes they win by 25+ but Gonzaga is their only top 20ish win.
BYU | (+2) With some shake-up in my top spots, I decided to compare some teams and BYU really reaped the benefits of that. They keep taking care of business and their loss to Connecticut stays looking good.
Gonzaga | (-2) The loss to Michigan did take a bit of a fall with Michigan losing this week and even their win against Alabama lessened this week. Still a great resume, just slightly down from last week.
Houston | (+1) The Texas Tech win makes it to where Houston continues to impress me and break away from my skepticism of them. This is a really good team.
Duke | (-2) Maybe my skepticism for Houston is leaving them & hitting on Duke. I don't think the ACC has recovered from last year's embarrassment & even though Duke is still the best, something feels off.
Michigan State | (-) It's a very definitive top 11 so Michigan St stays put. That being said, I think it's not question they're #12. There's a gap between the top 11 & them, but also between them and the rest too.
Illinois | (+2) Great, solid win against Iowa and they definitely benefit from the fact a ton of teams in my teens lost this week which helps move them up.
North Carolina | (+3) I feel like they shouldn't move up this much, but so many teams lost and they didn't so here we are.
Texas Tech | (+4) They lost to Houston but it was one of the better losses to have this week so somehow they move up. It was hard to place #14-#19 for me honestly.
UCF | (-3) It sucks that they lost right when they finally got everyone's attention, but losing to Oklahoma St isn't that bad honestly and since everyone lost this week, it doesn't drop them much...for now.
Arkansas | (-1) I can't believe they're only dropping one cause they lost by over 20 to Auburn, but so many other teams around them lost too to worst teams or to more than one team.
Alabama | (-4) I think Alabama may be slightly better than the teams above it, but it's hard to justify 2 losses without a bit of a drop. The Vandy loss was good & competitive. The Texas loss was disappointing.
Georgia | (+3) They lost to Florida by 15 yet rose in my rankings. Just shows how weird it was to rank this week. Luckily for them, I think losing to Florida wasn't that horrible
Virginia | (NEW) They finally made it! I'm very low on them, as am I about the whole ACC. I don't think they have a standout win yet. Lots of solid wins, but nothing that makes me feel they're a top tier team.
Seton Hall | (NEW) They, too, benefit from everyone seemingly losing on a week where they haven't. I'd love for them, like Virginia, to have more quality wins, but I can't deny two 14-2 power 5 schools.
Miami (OH) | (NEW) I didn't think I'd have them in unless they hit 20-0, but once again, with some teams really collecting losses, they debuted a bit earlier than expected. No great wins but 17-0 is impressive.
Iowa | (-5) Still looking for a great win from them. The Minnesota loss is not great, but their other 3 losses are against top 13 teams & they kept it close against Illinois so they survive...for now.
Villanova | (-3) Once again they survive due to many teams losing. Their loss to Creighton isn't great, but at least Creighton is a potential fringe tournament team. Plus it's their only meh loss. They squeak in.
Louisville | (-1) I'm still very low on them, but similar to USC last week, I'm keeping them barely in my top 25 because their loss to Duke was to be expected and at least it was closer than I thought it'd be.
