| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
Purdue | NC. Big win at Alabama keeps Purdue at #1.
Houston | NC. Tried but failed to lose against Auburn in Birmingham.
UConn | NC. Now has a big win over BYU and is blasting everyone else they play.
Arizona | +1. Nobody has a better pair of wins than vs. Florida and at UCLA.
Louisville | +4. Louisville put on an offensive show against Kentucky.
Duke | +1
Michigan | -3. Despite not losing Michigan looks shaky against mid-level P4 competition, while teams around them pick up big wins or look good in losses against marquee opponents.
BYU | NC. Couldn’t pull off the comeback but still look like a top ten team.
Illinois | +3. A win over Texas Tech highlights their resume to date.
Alabama | NC. Took a loss to #1 Purdue but the win over St. John’s (and loses around Alabama) keep them ranked highly.
Kentucky | -5. Minus five feels like a steep price to pay for that loss but I do think it’s fair. Kentucky’s offense looks great, but Louisville was too much.
Florida | -1. Gets jumped by Illinois but they have a pair of wins against in state rivals this week.
Iowa State | +1
Michigan State | +1
Gonzaga | +4. Blasted Creighton and turn took out Arizona State on the road.
UCLA | -3. Took a close loss to Arizona.
St. John's | -1
Texas Tech | -1
Tennessee | -1
North Carolina | NC
Arkansas | NC. I generally don’t move teams down for almost losing, but that Samford game had me thinking about it.
Vanderbilt | NC
NC State | NC
Georgetown | UNR. Has a pair of wins against Maryland and Clemson.
USC | -1
I don’t usually do this but I made some edits based on the previous week as well as this week. I was traveling last Monday and didn’t get to do my final touch up. I’m not relying much on metrics yet because we don’t have enough games for them to be useful but that’s coming soon. The way I use metrics is similar to the selection committee. I’m not ranking teams by what Torvik/Kenpom say about them. I’m ranking teams based on what Torvik/Kenpom say about their opponents.
