Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Purdue | (Prev 4) Purdue's backcourt did what it was supposed to do when Edey was bottled up, what it didn't do against FDU. |
| Arizona | (Prev 1) Just couldn't get over the hump against the #1 team in a hostile environment. Still looks like a Final Four team. |
| Kansas | (Prev 2) Solid road win, but Purdue leaps ahead given the monumental win. |
| UConn | (Prev 3) Looked great against a Gonzaga team that might be slipping a bit. |
| Houston | (Prev 5) It's too bad they've had a relatively ho-hum non-conf. schedule. I would like to see them against stronger competition, to see if they really have weathered last year's losses. |
| Marquette | (Prev 7) Continues to return to form after weird Wisc blowout |
| Oklahoma | (Prev 9) I really don't believe this highly in this team, but the results speak for themselves. |
| Tennessee | (Prev 10) Seems to have righted the ship after that ridiculously tough stretch of 3 straight close losses. |
| Illinois | (Prev 11) Decent showing this week. |
| BYU | (Prev 14) Same as Illinois, keeps rolling. |
| Texas | (Prev 12) BYU has the better resume, though I probably believe in Texas a shade more than them since they have the better player. Still, good showing this week. |
| Virginia | (Prev 16) Bad showing against Northeastern this week prevents them from moving up more. This team just seems to disappear at times. |
| Kentucky | (Prev 17) Good return against UNC after dropping the weird game to UNC-W. A couple of strong wins gives them the edge over the next few teams. |
| North Carolina | (Prev 8) Some major questions on defense for this team. |
| Baylor | (Prev 6) Was that a good win by Mich St or a bad loss by Baylor. Yes to both? Major question marks for this team as they finally start playing some good teams. |
| Gonzaga | (Prev 13) It's not bad to lose to UConn, but this team just doesn't seem as good as the last few iterations. Big question marks as they finish out the non-conf schedule. |
| Wisconsin | (Prev 18) A very balanced, dangerous team. |
| Clemson | (Prev 15) Losing by 2 to Memphis isn't that bad of a first loss, and they still have a very strong resume. |
| Ohio State | (Prev 19) A resume very similar to Clemson, just slightly worse in most regards. |
| Colorado State | (Prev 20) Showed good fight bouncing back from the loss to SMC. Maybe just a fluke or bad matchup. Still seems like a legitimate Top 25 team. |
| James Madison | (Prev 24) I *really* do not believe in this team, but how can you ignore the results? |
| Colorado | (Prev 25) Looked good in an easy game this week. |
| TCU | (Prev 23) Picked up a blowout this week. Not super bought in on this team, but they've looked better than they have any right to after last season's losses. |
| Florida Atlantic | (Prev NR-27) Looked OK in its couple of games this week. Now faces a massive test in Arizona. |
| Ole Miss | (Prev NR) I feel dumber doing this one than James Madison, but we're down to 4 undefeated teams. I get that their schedule is a big blah, but it is now past December's midpoint. They earned a spot. |
