| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
Michigan | My brother-in-law passed from cancer in January. He got his PhD from Michigan and bled maize and gold. I contend that Michigan won the natty for him, and I'm sure he's celebrating. Enjoy it, man.
UConn | Runner-up in the title game, runner-up on my poll ballot. As long as Dan Hurley is in Storrs, UConn's going to be up here a lot.
Arizona | Arizona was one of the most consistent teams in the nation this year, but they had nothing for Michigan, surprisingly enough. They'll be back.
Duke | Boozer Beater aside, Duke was legitimately fun to watch this season. Their Sweet 16 game versus St. John's was an instant classic.
Illinois | Offense, offense, offense. Illinois was nigh-unstoppable down the stretch, and their size overpowered almost everybody.
Houston |
Purdue |
Michigan State |
Iowa |
Tennessee |
St. John's |
Arkansas |
Florida |
Nebraska | Nebrasketball made it to the Sweet 16! Hopefully they're able to repeat next year.
Louisville |
Virginia | A rather ignominious end to what was an incredible first season for Ryan Odom - on the ropes against Wright State, then falling short against Tennessee.
Gonzaga |
Vanderbilt |
Kansas |
Utah State |
Texas | The closest thing we had to a Cinderella in this tournament. They beat Gonzaga but are ranked lower because I would not have ranked them before the tournament.
Texas Tech |
Miami (FL) |
Saint Louis |
High Point | This is a respect vote. The game against Wisconsin was an instant classic.
ALMOST FAMOUS: 26) Wisconsin, 27) UCLA, 28) BYU, 29) VCU, 30) Auburn. This was a tough season for me - a lot of family-related things kept me away from this poll pretty much from December onward, with the biggest thing being what I mentioned in my note about Michigan. I dedicate this ballot - and Michigan's #1 spot on it - to my brother-in-law, the biggest Michigan fan I ever knew. I really hope you're celebrating that natty up there, buddy. Looking forward to next season - thank you to the r/CollegeBasketball crew for putting this on every year.
